I always use the finest quality materials with the best lightfastness available to ensure your portrait lasts a lifetime.
Each portrait has the option of being mounted to a standard size so arrives ready to frame, and will be protected with acid-free cellophane and tissue paper in presentation packaging, so that even before framing it makes a special gift.
Along with this I offer a friendly, professional service with consultations, advice and ideas, including regular progress updates.
Firstly you will need to select a portrait size. I can recommend which size would work best based on the reference photos you have if you are unsure. It is also worth thinking about where the portrait will be displayed, as you will likely want a different size if intended to be hung on a wall or sat on a bedside table for example.
A 25% deposit secures your booking on the wait list, via bank transfer. The remaining payment can be made once the portrait is complete and you are fully happy with it. If you’d like to pay in monthly instalments, this is something that can be arranged.
I will always confirm the details of your commissioned pet portrait before I begin.
Secondly, you will need a really good quality photo of your pet. It is particularly important to capture the character of your pet through their position or facial expression. Natural lighting is always best, by a window or preferably outdoors with no direct sunlight. I need to be able to see your pet's eyes clearly. I usually find that holding a treat directly above the camera is a good way of holding their attention.. The better the photo, the better the drawing!
It also needs to be the original image, rather than screenshots or photos that have been transferred through apps as they degrade the quality. The best way to send photos is via email.
I use one main photo to draw from, but it helps if you send me a selection in various lights and poses so I can get a sense of the pet’s character. I also love hearing about your pets' personalities and stories, as it will all inform the portrait.
If you are unsure of whether your images are suitable, please feel free to email me a selection of the ones you have, so I can offer any advice in capturing a better photograph and check if they are suitable to draw from. I understand that some of your pets are sadly no longer with us, but I will do my best to work with the photographs you have.
Once you have an idea on the size portrait you’d like and you have gathered a selection of suitable reference photos, the next step is to get in contact with me, either via email or instagram (see contact page on this website). I usually have around a 3 month waiting list, so please bear this in mind if you need the portrait completed by a certain date. If you have a closer deadline than this then I will do my best to accommodate!
I will book you in when the 25% deposit is taken. I will always contact you nearer the time before starting your portrait, to confirm the size and photo I’ll be working from, and will let you know once I’ve started.
It is up to you whether you want to see photos along the way of the drawing in stages, or to wait to see the finished portrait once it's complete.
The time it takes me to do each portrait varies on the size and subject, but I should be able to give you an estimation when discussing your commission.
You will also be able to see your portrait come to life in short videos, as I often record parts of the process for my instagram page.
Once your pet portrait is complete, I will send you a range of high quality photos. Once you are 100% happy with your portrait, the remaining payment can be made.
